Calendar
  • During calendar we welcome and greet our friends.
    We learn how to use a calendar. The helper
    takes roll by counting boys and girls. I model
    writing using wonder spelling each day with a
    morning message. This is written in the form of
    a journal. We also sing songs and dance.

Review Developmental Spelling Page
  • Please encourage your child to experiment with
    writing.
  • Accept what they can do independently.
  • Praise them for any letters that correspond with
    sounds in the writing.
  • Wonder spelling-I wonder if this is the way grown
    ups spell this word.

Snack
  • Please send a snack that is healthy.
  • Please no drinks as we have a water fountain in
    the room.
  • Make sure your childs name is on the snack.
  • They can also talk quietly.

Shared Reading
  • We begin with chants or poems, and then we listen
    to two stories. The children's books are
    selected to fit the skills needed for success.
    We focus their attention to the lessons
    objective. We also build comprehension and
    vocabulary. Students participate daily.

What does my child learn during Shared Reading?
  • Concepts of print directional conventions,
    turning pages, reading print from left to right,
    as well as from top to bottom
  • Pre-reading skills such as letter
    identification, letter sound associations, sight
    word recognition, rhyming words, and patterns in
    text.
  • Improve comprehension predict, visualize,
    summarize and retell
  • This experience is pleasurable to children
    and allows them to be successful in reading,
    which provides them with the desire to experiment
    with reading and writing at other times.

Recess
  • We use the upper playground and the patio.
  • Students play games on the patio. They share
    some outside toys.
  • We regularly discuss safety and procedures.

Lunch
  • Lunch for students is 2.50 a day and milk is 0.30
  • Send lunch money in an envelope with your
    students first and last name, amount, and Cutler.
  • If your child's lunch debit account is out of
    money two days in a row your child receives an
    alternative lunch.
  • Please let Stella or Mary(334) 887-4950 know
    before 8am if you want a school lunch with your
    child. You can email me prior to 715
