Adopt A School Scheme
  • An initiative by the

Objective
  • Seek ownership on environmental sustainability.
  • Empower 3P partners to initiate environmental
    programmes.
  • Create awareness and participation in
    environmental issues and activities amongst
    students, through the partnership efforts.

Background
  • A 3P initiative from NEAs Education and
    Partnership Department.
  • The Scheme has been launched in April 2004.
  • Dialogue sessions with the industry partners and
    the schools were subsequently held.
  • NEA will match the partner and school. Although
    there is some cost involved, it is very minimal.

Guidelines
  • Multiple adoption is encouraged.
  • NEA will initiate the adoption process and
    facilitate the initial meetings.
  • Environmental projects/current programmes by the
    participated schools will be showcased at Schools
    Carnival 2004.
  • The projects could be a combination of static
    displays and interactive/virtual games.

The Role of School
  • Ensure a wider outreach of school population and
    neighbouring community.
  • Work with the industrial partner.
  • Seek professional input from the partner.
  • Joint-community programmes/projects.

The Role of Industrial Partner
  • Advisor and mentor for the adopted school.
  • Facilitate training attachment programmes.
  • Joint-community programmes/projects.
  • Community groups eg CDC invited in the 3P
    projects.
  • Funds can also be obtained from the 3P
    Partnership Fund or National Youth Endowment Fund.

  • 3-day fun filled carnival targeted at
  • Pre-school children
  • Principals, teachers and students from primary to
    tertiary level
  • Estimated turnout 10,000 pax
  • The Carnival is 'by-invitation' only

Stage-based Activity
  • Environmental Cheer Dance Competition
  • Schools (primary, secondary, pre-university and
    tertiary institutions) will be invited to
    participate in the competition with environmental
    themes.
  • Games Performances
  • Schools will be invited to perform song, dance,
    rap or musical performance using recyclable
    materials.

Stage-based Activity
  • Sharing Sessions
  • The environmental Ambassadors who attended the
    exchange programme in the Chiba Prefecture
    (Japan)..
  • The Singaporean representatives who attended the
    UN Childrens Conference on the Environment.
  • In addition, the static display of their trips
    will be displayed.

Exhibition-based Activity
  • Enviro-Innovate (Project Display)
  • Enviro-Innovate (Games)
  • Schools who participated in the Adopt A School
    Scheme will be matched with an industrial partner
    to work in collaboration on environmental
    projects. The outstanding projects will be
    showcased at the Schools Carnival. In addition,
    the schools could also design interactive games
    for mass participation.
  • Judging for the best entries will be conducted
    during the carnival.

Exhibition-based Activity
  • aRRRt from Urban Waste Sculpture Contest
  • Held during the Living Art event in June, the
    school sculpture contest is open to secondary
    schools. Giant sculptures will be constructed
    using recyclable materials. The short-listed
    entries will be exhibited at Ngee Ann City Civic
    Plaza in June and at the Schools Carnival in
    November.

Exhibition-based Activity
  • 3R Award Corner
  • Winning schools of the Waste Recycling
    Competition will display their exhibits and share
    best practices.
  • Children Art Competition
  • The winning entries for the Children Art
    Competition, held in conjunction with the Clean
    Green Camp for primary schools, will be exhibited.

Edutainment Activity
  • Enviro-Challenge is a maze set-up on site
    complete with stations where participants will
    have to clear each station by answering
    questions, unraveling riddles, performing some
    task/action to earn points and win prizes. This
    is an activity that allows mass participation.

Wonderland
  • Fun-filled activities such as workshops, story
    telling, games that evolve around environmental
    issues for pre-school children.
