Beijing has been the capital of China for 800
years with rich historical heritage. Yet it is
considered to be one of the ten biggest modern

3Great Wall
- The only man-made structure visible from the
space, the Great Wall has become a symbol of
Chinas ancient heritage. Its construction
started almost 2,500 years ago. The sections near
to Beijing, situated at Badaling, Mutianyu, and
Simatai, are the best preserved sections of the
entire Wall.
4Tiananmen Square
The largest square in the world, covering 44
hectares. It is surrounded by many of famous
buildings, including the Great Hall of the People
and the National Museum of Chinese History.
5Forbidden City
- This is the Palace Museum, also known as the
Purple Forbidden City. Under Ming Emperor Yongle,
construction began in 1406. It took 14 years to
build the Forbidden City. - For five centuries thereafter, it continued
to be the residence of 23 successive emperors
until 1911 when Qing Emperor Puyi was forced to
abdicate the throne. In 1987, the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
recognized the Forbidden City as a world cultural
legacy. - It is the worlds largest group of wooden
structures and the world largest Palace . It has
more than 9,000 rooms , covering 18 acres .
6Oriental Plaza
- The largest commercial complex in Asia,
located in the heart of Beijing. It occupies a
massive site area of 100,000 sq. meters, and
contains grade-A office towers, a shopping and
entertainment center, a 5-star business hotel,
and apartments.
7The Big Bell in the Big Bell Temple
- Preserved in the Big Bell Temple, it is the
largest bronze bell in China, weights 47 tons and
standing 7 meters high. It is meticulously
inscribed with 17 religions works using 230,000
Chinese characters.
The Sleeping Buddha
Cast in the Tang dynasty(618907)and kept in the
Sleeping Buddha Temple, it is the largest bronze
recumbent Buddha in China.
8Site of Peking Man
- Located in Zhoukoudian, this is the site
where the remains of one of the worlds earliest
human beings (200,000 to 700,000 years ago) was
discovered.
Beijing Zoo
The largest zoo in China, home of the Giant
Panda.
9CCTV Tower
- The 238-meter-high CCTV Tower is the second
tallest in Asia. It is the best place to visit
for a birds-eye view of the city.
National Library
Asias largest library, one of the six national
libraries in the world that has more than 10
million volumes in its collection.
10Temple of Heaven
- The largest example of religious architecture
in the world. Emperors of the Ming and Qing
dynasties offered sacrifices to heaven here.
Summer Palace
Occupying an area of 290 hectares, the gardens
consist mainly of Longevity Hill and Kunming
Lake, with halls, towers, galleries, pavilions
etc. It beautifully blends southern China-style
garden architecture with northern Chinas natural
landscape.
11Harmony Peace Tibetan Buddhist Temple
- Built in 1694, the Yonghegong is the largest
Tibetan Buddhist Temple in Beijing and one of the
most important outside Tibet. It covers an area
of 66,400 sq. meters and has 1000 halls. The
architecture blends Manchu, Mongolian, Tibetan
and Han styles. It houses the Maitreya Buddha
statue, a 23-meter-tall Buddha carved from a
single piece of wood.
12Beihai Park
An imperial garden built some 900 years ago .The
Jade Island and the White Dagoba are the most
impressive part of the park . Take no.103 , 109 ,
111 trolley buses there .
13The Ming Tombs
- The Ming Dynasty lasted from 1368 to 1644.
- The tombs are located about 50 kilometres to
the north of Beijing. They are scattered over a
basin approximately 40 square kilometres in area,
screened by mountains on three sides and open to
the Beijing Plain in the south.
