PUBLIC NOTICE DISPOSAL OF SPECIAL WASTES
The following categories of wastes are normally
accepted at Beetham Landfill-Port of Spain
Forres Park Landfill-Claxton Bay Guanapo
Landfill-Arima.
Municipal solid waste Street and drain
sweepings Yard and garden waste
Trade/Commercial
Waste e.g. packaging or recyclable Dead animals
(less than 50 kg each) materials, (Excluding any
hazardous materials) Market refuse
The following categories of waste would NOT
be accepted for disposal without prior approval
of SWMCOL Bulky waste (e.g. derelict vehicles
tyres) International Waste (Ships
Aircrafts) Liquid waste of any description Heavy
metal sludges (Lead, Chromium, Cadmium, Water-solu
ble industrial wastes Arsenic, Mercury
Cyanide) Hospital or veterinary wastes Waste Oil
and Oily Waste Condemned food stuff
Oily and organic solvents and
sludges Pathological wastes Any toxic or
hazardous wastes Spent chemicals and pesticide
containers Acid/alkali sludges Paint
sludges Spent filter media Insulation
materials Medical/Pharmaceutical waste Any
items or materials that should not be
reused Faecal and non-faecal sludges Any other
type of waste that may be suspected to
be Incinerator ash or slag hazardous, or
contributes to a site problem E-Waste
(Electronic waste items)
Industrial process wastes Construction
Demolition waste Where approved, these
disposals would hereafter be called Special
Disposal, and subject to the following
conditions 1. Disposal must be supervised by
SWMCOLs officials and security personnel. 2.
Notice must be given in writing to SWMCOL at
least 72 hours in advance. 3. Cost would be
attributed to volume, types and components of
wastes for disposal and must be paid for in
advance, by cash or certified cheque. 4.
Clients are advised that a representative should
witness the disposal exercise. 5. Pretreatment
of items or materials may be required prior to
transporting to the site in order to minimize
possible reuse, and achieve safe and effective
disposal. 6. A Special Waste Certificate would
be issued following completion of
disposal. Waste generators are reminded that it
is their responsibility to ensure proper and safe
disposal of their waste. Evidence of the
disposal, by the way of a SWMCOL Activity Record,
must be obtained from the contractor or any
person given the responsibility for collection
and transportation of Special Wastes for
disposal.
