FACS Mentoring Program

• To assist in the retention of FACS Teachers by
  implementing a mentorship program for
  new/returning FACS teachers across Kansas.

A teacher/advisor mentor is one who

• Assists new and returning teachers
• Encourages FACS teachers to establish FCCLA
  chapters
• Encourages new teachers to participate in state
  and national activities
• Helps new teachers in the program approval and
  standards-based curriculum
• Provides positive reinforcement for new
  teachers/advisors
• Listens to new teachers/advisors concerns
• Assumes adult leadership roles in FACS
  professional associations and FCCLA
• Uses current teaching resources and strategies.

Mentoring Teacher Expectations

• 15 mentor teachers
• 100 honorarium, travel expenses reimbursed, and
  school district will be reimbursed substitute pay
  for 2 days.
• Attend a retreat on September 29, 2006, at Smoky
  Hill Service Center in Salina, KS.
• Visit the new/returning teacher for one day at
  his/her school from October-April.
• Participate in on-going on-line conversations
  discussing issues about being new teachers.
• Invite new teachers to FCCLA activities.
