Sax-40

  • The Silent Air Initiative

2
What does the concept design look like
  • The Sax-40 will hold an estimated 149 passengers
    to 215 passengers
  • This aircrafts sound is predicted as 63 dba
  • The Sax-40 has a blended wing shape

4
Why does the Sax-40 design look the way it does
  • Less Pollution
  • Noise
  • Air
  • More fuel efficient

5
What makes the Sax-40 so quiet
  • Exhaust
  • The long exhaust ducts have acoustic liners to
    dampen noise
  • The size of the exhaust nozzles can be made
smaller during takeoff to reduce noise or larger
    while cruising for fuel efficiency.
  • Airframe
  • Instead of noisy flaps, a sloped wing and steep
    landing angle do the braking
  • Engines are embedded in the frame, with air
intakes on top, reduce drag and noise.

6
What make the Sax-40 so quiet Continued
  • Wheels
  • An aerodynamic fairing around the SAX-40s wheels
redirects the airflow and reduces drag.
  • Engine
  • Three radial-blade fans per turbine move large
volumes of air at low and quiet speeds.

7
What is the estimated fuel burn
Note This table uses UK gallons
8
What are the major design features
  • The aircraft is an all-lifting design,
producing lift on the centre-body as well as the
    wings.
  • The airframe makes use of a novel centre-body
    shape with leading edge carving.
  • No need for a tail

9
The Engine
  • The aircraft has three novel engines
  • The engine type is called GRANTA 3401
  • Each engine has a single core, driving three high
    capacity low speed fans.
  • The Sax-40 has an engine length of 2.46 meters

10
The Engine Design
  • axial-radial compressor
  • extensive acoustics liners
  • variable area nozzle
  • low noise 5 stage Low Pressure Turbine
  • transmission system
  • 3 high capacity low speed Fans
