Title: KEK beam test plans

1
KEK beam test plans
  • Sep-5 2007 Japan-Korea TV meeting
  • Satoru Uozumi (Shinshu)
  • A beam test is planned in coming November at KEK.
  • Main objectives
  • Evaluate performance of various scintillator
    strips.
  • Establish extruded scintillators toward the FNAL
    beam test.
  • What to measure
  • Measure light yield with position scan (15 mm
    pitch)
  • Bias voltage scan
  • Compare several types of strips
  • Strip-by-strip variation (among 3-5 strips per a
    type)
  • Gain and temperature monitoring?

2
KEK new test beam line (http//fujibeam.kek.jp)
Experimental Stage (7 x 4 m)
  • Electron beam line
  • p 0.5 3.4 GeV/c, sp/p 0.4
  • Rate 100 Hz _at_ 3 GeV
  • Beam spot size - 1cm

3
The extruded scintillators will work for beam
tune monitor
KNU strips
4.4cm
14cm
magnet
Thank you very much for offering the
scintillators!
4
Schedule of the beam-line commissioning
  • September 5th 7th
  • Cabling and installation of 6 beam-tune monitor
  • Startup magnet system
  • September 10th14th
  • Commissioning of beam-tune monitor
  • October 2th
  • KEKB beam will be on, start beam-line
    commissioning
  • Check target position (12 days)
  • Magnet commissioning from upstream (gt10 days)
  • As soon as finishing the commissioning, user beam
    time will start
  • Dec17 beam for user (schedule may be flexibly
    changed)
  • Nov 511 Belle SVD group
  • Nov 1218 T2K
  • Nov 1925 ILC-CAL
  • Nov 26Dec 2 Phenix

Measurement Plan
Strip Scintillators on movable stage
Sci-Fi trackers
Trigger counters
Beam
  • MIP scan of the scintillator strips
  • Position will be scanned with movable stage
  • Tracking with Sci-Fi tracker (position resolution
    1mm)
  • Schedule is tentatively set to Nov 19-25 (still
    may change.)
  • Very tentative plan
  • 2 3 days for setup (need 1-2 days access to
    beamline)
  • gt 3 days for beam run (including 1 day
    commissioning)
  • 1 day for withdrawal

6
Strips interesting to test
  • Kuraray 2 / 3 mm thick, fiber / direct readout
  • Improved extruded scintillators with
  • Fiber and direct readout
  • 2 and 3 mm thick
  • cover of 3M radiant mirror (not TiO2 paint)
  • Megastrip structure?
  • However types of strips to be tested will be
determined from schedule of the extruded
    scintillator production !

7
  • Beam-line devices
  • Movable stage, CAMAC / NIM crate available at
    the beamline
  • SciFi tracker, hodoscope will be tested at Kobe
  • Trigger / veto counters same ones used at DESY
    BT
  • Detector frame reuse SCECAL frames
  • Bias voltage source from Kobe?
  • Electronics (ADC, coincidence reg., etc)
  • need to collect
  • Gain / temperature Monitoring system ?
  • Necessary Man power (rough estimate)
  • 1(23) for beamline device setup,
  • 1(13) for detector setup,
  • 1(13) for DAQ, trigger logic and electronics
  • 2 person x 3 shifts , or 3 x 2 per a day ?
  • 710 person in total?
  • gt5 from Japan, 2-3 can
    come from KNU?
