GPS Global Positioning System
14
GPS Global Positioning System
  • 24 Satellites orbit the Earth at an altitude of
    about 12,000 miles.
  • Every point on Earth can be identified by using
two sets of numbers called coordinates. One
represents a horizontal (latitude) line and a
    vertical (longitudinal) line crosses it.
  • The GPS receiver uses information from at least
three satellites to determine the coordinate
    position.
  • The information can be displayed in several ways
    longitude/latitude, Universal Transverse
    Mercator, or Military Grid.
