4Basic Page Editing Elements
- Homestead SiteBuilder is the tool you will use to
build and edit your pages. - Homestead SiteBuilder opens ON TOP OF the
Homestead site where you logged in. - Toggle back and forth between the two by clicking
on the buttons on the task bar.

- You will start creating your page by dragging and
dropping an Element onto your page. - Elements are the components of your web pages.
6Basic Page EditingMoving and Resizing Elements
- To move an Element, click on the center of the
Element and drag it to another spot on your page. - To resize an Element, click and drag the
Element's green corner box.
7Basic Page EditingThe Element Editor
- The Element Editor allows you to further edit the
appearance of a selected Element. - To open the Element Editor, you can click the
Edit button or double-click on the Element.

- To add text, you must add the Text Element to
your page and then start typing. - To edit the text, you can highlight the piece of
text and use the text toolbar to change the font
type, size, and color.

- You can save your page by clicking the Save
button on the Toolbar. - Changes you make to your page will not be saved
unless you save your page, so don't forget!

- To see how your page will look when posted on the
Web, you can click the Preview button.

- A Web browser window will open on top of
Homestead SiteBuilder displaying your page. - To return to Homestead SiteBuilder (to continue
working on your page) you must close or minimize
the Web browser window displaying your page.
12Linking UpSelect an Element for Linking
- To create a link, you first need to select an
Element for linking. - To do this, you must click on the Element you
wish to link. A green box will appear around it
when it is selected.
13Linking UpMake a Link to a Page in Your Site
- To link the selected Element, you must click the
Link button on the toolbar. (The Link dialog box
will appear.). - To link to a page within your Homestead Web site,
you must select the page from the drop-down list
of available pages.
14Linking UpLink to Another Web Site
- You can create links to any Web site you want.
- To create an external link, type the URL (Web
address) in the top text box of the Link dialog
box.

- You can also create text links.
- To link text, you must first use your mouse to
select the piece of text you wish to link.
(Simply clicking is not sufficient.).
16Linking UpMake an E-mail Link
- You can have people e-mail you by creating a link
to the browser's e-mail form. - Enter your e-mail address in the Link dialog box.
Make sure to put it in the E-mail Address text
box.

- You can save your page by clicking the Save
button on the Toolbar. - Changes you make to your page will not be saved
unless you save your page, so don't forget!

- To see that the links you have created are
working, you can click the Preview button.

- A Web browser window will open on top of
Homestead SiteBuilder displaying your page. Try
clicking the links you have created. - To return to Homestead SiteBuilder (to continue
editing your page) you must close or minimize the
browser window displaying your page.
20Importing ImagesOpen the Image Importer
- Using the Image Importer, you'll be able to
import your own .jpg and .gif images into your
page. - First, drag the Imported Image element onto your
page. Double-click to open the Element Editor.
Then, click the Import New Image button to open
the Image Importer.
21Importing ImagesImport an Image
- You can click the Browse button to look for the
image on your computer. If you're using Netscape,
you'll need to change the bottom drop-down box to
"All Files," and then you'll be able to navigate
to your Image. - Clicking the OK button in the Image Editor will
place the image on your page.

- To move an image, click on the center of the
image and drag it to another spot on your page. - To re-size an image, click and drag the image's
green corner box.

- To delete an image from your page, you must click
it to select it, and then click the delete button.

- The image is still available for you to use in
your Homestead account until you delete it from
the My Web Sites section.

- You can invite your friends and family to join
your Homestead Web site. - Click the Collaborate link in the My Web Sites
options, and then click Invite New Members to
read about the different types of members.

- Enter the names and e-mail addresses of the
people you wish to invite. - You can designate both full members and mailing
list members by clicking the appropriate radio
button. - The people you invite will receive an e-mail
explaining what Homestead is, and how to join
your Homestead Web site.
27Creating CommunitiesCheck up on Your Members
- You can visit the members list to check whether a
member has logged in yet, change a member's
editing status, or delete members.

- It's easy to communicate with other members of
your Homestead Web site. Click the Collaborate
link in the My Web Sites options, then click Use
Homestead Mailing List, specify which members you
want to write to, type in a message, and send.
