Date of Birth

• Louis Pasteur was born on December 27th
• 1822. Louiss parents were peasants. His father
  was a tanner by trade.

Where Louis grew up.

• Louis grew up in the French town of Dole.

Where he went to college

• Pasteur went to college in Basancon at the Royal
  College. There he became interested in chemistry.
  While there he also began preparing for the test
  to admit him into the Ecole Normal School in
  Paris.

• Louis was appointed assistant in the laboratory
  at the University of Lille.

• Pasteurization is used to keep things from
  spoiling. The most common type of pasteurization
  is with milk. Using this , it gives the milk a
  12-14 day shelf life.

• Pasteur also tried to teach people about hygiene,
  sanitation, and sterilization to halt the spread
  of disease. This is why you Mom tells you to wash
  your hands before you sit down to eat dinner.
  Thanks to Pasteur and other scientists who study
  microbes, the food we eat is safer and we know
  how to stay healthy and free of disease.

• Pasteur said that Imagination should give wings
  to our thoughts but we always need decisive
  experimental proof, and when the moment comes to
  draw conclusions and to interpret the gathered
  observations, imagination must be checked and
  documented by the factual results of the
  experiment.

• Louis Pasteur died on September 28 1895.
• He died of a paralyzing stroke at the age of 73
