Tack Coat
Problem The specifications require a uniform
application of tack coat on clean pavement so
that layers of pavement will bond. Tack is
frequently distributed unevenly in strings or
corn rows which may lead to de-bonding of
asphalt layers. Correction Clean, properly
sized nozzles with the correct pressure will
distribute tack uniformly to clean roadway
surfaces.
605-8 Apply tack coat material with a
distributor spray bar which can be adjusted to
uniformly coat the entire surface at the directed
rate.
Wide orifice yields corn row tack and possible
de-bonding
Small orifice yields uniform coverage fog of
tack.
