  • The Organisation of Tourism Education and
    Training (O.T.E.K) is the specialized Greek state
    institution that provides education and training
    for professions in the field of Tourism .
  • O.T.E.K operates as a legal entity of Public Law,
    under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism.
    Since its founding in 1937, it has supplied the
    tourism market with 200.000 professionals.
  • Today, O.T.E.K includes the former Schools of
    Tourism Professions and the Schools for Tour
    Guides. The new form of O.T.E.K signals its role
    in the reorganization and modernization of
    tourism education and training in Greece, and in
    the creation of a modern system for the
    accreditation of the professional qualifications
    in the tourism sector.

    towns of Greece.

  • Admission requirements The admission
    procedure and the prerequisities for attendance
    are determined by the Ministry of Education, 15
    Metropoleos str, Athens.
  • Attendance The studies last 7 semesters.
    Each academic year consists of two terms The
    Academic Term starts in October and ends in June.
    The Practical Training Term starts in July and
    finishes at the end of September. It consists of
    working in selected hotel enterprises under the
    supervision of O.T.E.K.

  • POST-SECONDARY VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
  • Schools for Tourist Guides
  • Training centers Schools for Tourist
    Guides operate permanently in Athens,
    Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Corfu.
  • Admission requirements Students are
    admitted through entrance examinations. 
    Prospective applicants must be Greek nationals or
    subjects of countries - members of the E. U. or
    foreigners of Greek origin . They must have
    completed the secondary  education. Foreign
    candidates must have proficiency in Greek
    language. Candidates take entrance examinations
    on the following subjects Foreign languages
    Critical Essay in Greek language Greek History
    Geography of Greece. Successful candidates have
    an interview, through which the general Knowledge
    and competences,are assessed, in relation to the
    qualifications required for the Tourist Guide
    profession.
  • Attendance The duration of studies is
    2,5 years.  Course attendance is compulsory.  The
    educational program consists of theoretical
    classes and educational visits and trips.

  • Candidates must have completed the
    Secondary Education. For the specialisation of
    the Housekeeper Assistant, candidates must have
    completed the junior high-school. Applicants are
    admitted following a selection procedure, under
    O.T.E.K.'s supervision.
  • Attendance
  • Attendance is compulsory.The studies last 2
    year, for all specialisations, except for the
    Housekeeper Assistant course, which last 1 year.
    Each school year consists of two terms 1. The
    Academic Term starts in October and ends in June.
    2. The Practical Training Term starts in July
    and finishes in September. It consists of working
    in hotel enterprises, air companies, cruise
    ships, selected by O.T.E.K.

  • Courses for Unqualified Employees
  • Since its founding in 1937, O.T.E.K. offers
    courses in several Greek cities for professionals
    working in tourist enterprises, self-employed
    individuals in the hospitality industry, as well
    as those temporarily unemployed, who have only
    empirical knowledge of their field. Students have
    the opportunity to systematize and update their
    technical abilities as well as to acquire the
    necessary theoretical knowledge, in order to
    improve their performance in the area of customer
    service. Moreover, the courses aim at enhancing
    employment opportunities, developing an
    entrepreneurial spirit and reinforcing the
    adaptability of tourism enterprises and
    professionals to the rapid developments in the
    hospitality industry.
