ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVE
  • ACTION Occupy a Patrol Base
  • CONDITIONS The unit will occupy a patrol base in
    preparation for its next mission. The patrol
    provides its own security. Both friendly and
    enemy units have indirect fire capabilities.
  • STANDARDS The unit occupies a Patrol Base in
    accordance with FM 3-21.8

WHO?
A platoon of highly motivated Cadets.

A position set when a patrol halts for an
extended period of time (usually no more than 24
hours).
WHAT IS A PATROL BASE?

The time
stated in the patrol base annex or
when the PL deems it a necessity.
WHEN DO WE OCCUPY A PATROL BASE?

Has little tactical value to the enemy
Has dense vegetation
Be remote from known or suspected enemy locations

location, terrain (to include dead space), and SL
position. B) PLATOON SECTOR SKETCH will
include each fighting position (with
weapon systems) with squads sectors, MG
positions and range cards, claymore
locations, fires plan, and terrain. 2)
WITHDRAWAL PLAN A) Black and Gold RPs,
Alternate Patrol Base location 3) ALERT PLAN
A) How will we alert the platoon if the
enemy is sighted?

COMMUNICATIONS 1) ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN
COMMO A) Someone must always monitor the
radio (RTO, FO, Medic) B) Never stop
trying to get or maintain commo. Long whip up,
field expedient antennas

MAINTENANCE PLAN 1) What are we going to clean
first? Establish priority and timeline 2)
Weapons, NODs, PEQ-2s, communications equipment
and personal equipment. 3) Only 1 M240 at
a time and it will be replaced with an M249 while
off the perimeter. 4) Only 1 M249 per
squad at a time. 5) Any deficiencies will be
reported to the PSG. 6) Maintain 100 security
during the cleaning of the M240s. 7) No weapons
will be disassembled at night, just wiped down
and oiled.

PERSONAL HYGIENE 1) Will include a change of
socks at a minimum and any wet clothing. 2)
Shave and brush teeth. MESS PLAN 1) Open and
eat 1 package at a time. Consume the entire
meal. 2) Not a buffet!!!!! 3) Water re-supply
will be conducted. PSG and Medic
responsibility. REST PLAN 1) Will be conducted
with NO LESS than 33 security to include
leadership.

DAYLIGHT PATROL BASE 1) Stand To Procedures. 2)
Send out RS patrols for a more thorough
recon. 3) Readjust the perimeter and weapons
systems as necessary. 4) More detailed
priorities of work are conducted. Disassemble
weapons on ponchos for a more thorough
cleaning. 5) Go to one man positions. 6) Begin
planning for follow-on operations. 7)
Disseminate the plan, conduct rehearsals and
inspections.
