- Son of Massaoit, NA leader that helped the
Pilgrims survive their first year - Trade existed between NA English but
relationship was tense - Metacom blamed the New Englanders for threatening
their way of life - New England settlers were clearing forests,
putting up fences, creating pasture, towns,

- Metacom united NA groups to push the English
settlers out - Destroyed 20 towns, killed 2,000 settlers,
attacked towns, etc. - Difficult to keep NA groups united for English
it was easy - Metacom killed but war continued for a year

- Economy of New England was devastated (page 57)

the Dominion of New England (1686) - King James II appointed the Governor for the
Dominion - Established religious tolerance in the Dominion
- After Glorious Revolution (1689), William Mary
reestablished the colonies but the King would
appoint the Governor
