Title: Potential ARGO Products
1Potential ARGO Products
2Introduction
- An important component of Argo data management is
the development of products that (1) characterize
float and network performance and (2) demonstrate
operation/scientific utility. At the Data
Management meeting, products to evaluate float
and network performance will be discussed. A list
and examples of potential products and the web
sites where additional information is available
follow.. Also given are suggestions about where
the products should be generated (typically the
AIC or the Data Assembly Centers, DACs).
3Products to evaluate float performanceTo be
generated by individual DACs for the floats they
manage.
Available on http//www.aoml.noaa.gov/phod/ARGO/Pr
oducts/html/
- Waterfall plots for temperature and salinity by
float - Composite T-S curves by float
- Time series of surface pressure by float type
- Time series of maximum pressure by float type
- Time series of battery voltage by float type
- Sensor performance by sensor type not yet
available
4A display of data quality Waterfall plots
provide a measure of the internal consistency of
temperature and salinity profiles obtained from
the floats. Temperatures (salinities) are shifted
by 1 degree Celsius (0.1 psu) from profile to
profile.
5Composite T-S plots T-S plots can also serve the
purpose of quality control by portraying possible
drift in deep T-S properties.
6Time-series of surface pressure Problems with
histeresis in pressure sensors can be identified.
Surface pressure of only one float is
illustrated,ultimately floats showing similar
curves for the same float type will be generated
7- Time-series of maximum profile pressure by float
type Problems with volume control can be
identified and if widespread, instruments can be
modified. - Maximum profile pressure vs. date
- Maximum profile pressure vs. profile
number
8Time-series of battery power by float type
Problems in batteries can be identified and if
widespread, changes in battery products can be
made. Battery voltage vs. date
Battery voltage vs. profile number
9Sensor performance by sensor typenot yet
available
Plots will indicate when a particular sensor
failed and will be composite by sensor types.
10Products to evaluate network performance
- Age of floats
- Percent coverage
- Percentage of floats that reach GTS with 24 hours
(two options), produced by DACs - Deployment positions for floats that ran aground,
not yet available, to be produced by AIC. - Float lifetime by deployment method,
- not yet available, to be produced by DACs.
- Available now on aoml web-site.
11- Age of float available on http//argo.jcommops.org
continue to be produced by AIC.
Argo Real Time Status lt 1 year 1 - 2
years 2 - 3 3 - 4 gt 4 year
12- Percent coverage available on http//sio-argo.ucs
d.edu, click on Argo coverage maps, then
worldwide coverage. Should be available on
jcommops web site.
