Performance assessment with a rubric serves an
additional purpose

• It can become an instructional device.
• A rubric that uses the three levels, knowledge,
  reasoning and communication can be used as a
  ladder of success through which your students can
  ascend in their historical literacy.
• By letting your students know in advance
  expectations, you can become more of a coach and
  less of a lecturer.
• Develops a foundation of durable historical
  knowledge to draw from in the future.
