Question
Whats the difference between the different
kinds of organisms from the forest and field
soils?
4
I believe I will find more organisms living in
the forest soil compared to the field soil
because the soil in the forest has more nutrients
and I think that there will be organisms from
worms in the forest to beetles in the field.

Materials
The materials I had to use were simple to gather
actually. I needed a shovel, 8 baggies, a
permanent marker, a funnel setup (which was in a
lab provided for us), and a microscope.

Procedure
Table of Contents!
I intended to use a shovel and get soil samples
from in the forest and out in the field. Within
each area I took four samples litter layer, A,
B, and C layers. After I got my samples from
each section I took the soil to the funnel setup
and then after about a week of waiting I gathered
the organisms and looked at them through a
microscope, taking data from each section.

Observations Data
I had 8 cups that had organisms in them from the
soil samples I took. Each cup had some type of
plant material and dirt. Some cups had organisms
in it like different species of worms. I took
data by recording the types of organisms I saw in
each cup and drawing a picture labeling each part
that I could identify.

The day I gathered the samples it was wet, cold,
and cloudy. I think that had a big effect on the
type of organisms I got. To see the outcomes
of both the field and forest samples click on the

Field Litter Layer- Dirt, debris, plant material,
and a dead organism worm. Field A- Plant
material, dirt, debris, and a unidentified dead
