Title: The Titanic
1The Titanic
2Building of the Titanic
- The titanic was meant to be a race ship and it
was meant to 890 feet more than the other ship
called the Canard and the Titanic would be more
than the Canard by 100 feet. The Titanic set sail
May 31, 1911
3The Building of the Titanic 2
- The creators wasted no time transferring from
idea to drawing board. Their staff began working
to create a practicable design while the Harland
Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland began the
conversion of three berths into two. The largest
gantry in the world was about to be built for the
Titanic.
4The Lusitania was now expected to break speed
records and this frightened both of the men, and
further invoked them to use their alliance
against Cunard, and in the end win the Atlantic
route. The Titanic was born. The two made a
devious plan that was sure to beat Cunard. Using
both men's resources would build a two ships with
a third to follow that would be 150 the size of
Lusitania and would be 890 feet long. Almost 100
more feet than the Lusitania. The ships would be
so large that no shipyard on the face of the
Earth would have a dry dock, gantry, or crane
large enough to build them. These would be the
new ocean liners
5Interesting facts
- One of the most interesting facts about the
Titanic is that it was never christened. Harland
and Wolff never christened any of their ships.
They still don't to this day. It was a strict
policy at Harland and Wolff not to christen their
ships that was begun by the founders. This was
very odd for a ship in that day and time. For
some people, that was the reason the Titanic
sank. At 1205 p.m. two rockets were fired into
the air. Five minutes later a single rocket was
shot bidding farewell to the Titanic.
