  • INTRODUCTION
  • Our group at the University of Victoria is
developing a visualization framework for the
    National
  • Center for Biomedical Ontology (NCBO) as part of
the BioPortal initiative. This framework will
  • consist of three key components
  • 1. a visualization toolkit
  • 2. a visualization ontology and
  • 3. a mapping mechanism for specifying how to
    integrate and customize the available
    visualization services for particular ontologies
  • We are building visualizations to support
  • ontology navigation and searching
  • ontology alignment and comparisons
  • annotations and meta-data analysis
  • DIaMOND Degree of Interest Modeling for
    Ontology Navigation and Development.
  • Goals
  • Monitor user activity to determine concepts of
    interest
  • Provide adaptive visualizations to help users
    more efficiently navigate ontologies
  • Highlight interesting and landmark concepts
  • Filter uninteresting concepts
  • Ontology Based Exploration of Clinical Trials
  • Goals
  • Find new relationships, trends, gaps in clinical
    trials by using multidimensional visualization
    techniques
  • Provide feedback to the clinician to support the
    design of further trials
  • Visualizing ontology alignment operations in
    Prompt
  • Goals
  • Provide a structural context for the operations
    being performed
  • Provide filters to help the user focus on the
    most important operations

  • Visualizations on BioPortal
  • Goals
  • Develop applet versions of the existing tool
    Jambalaya to
  • determine requirements for future web-based
    visualizations
  • Provide visualizations showing ontology
    overviews
  • Create views to emphasize hub concepts
  • Query views to provide visual support for
    searching ontologies
  • and displaying results
