2
Living is Giving allows congregations and
individuals to contribute to the wider work of
the Uniting Church.
3
More than just a fundraising program, it connects
congregations in mission together
4
Banner and / or pic
and encourages congregation members to think
about the mission of the church beyond their own
congregation and local area.
5
The life of the Uniting Church from
administration to theological training, advocacy
to indigenous ministries, chaplaincy to creative
faith-growing ventures depends on funds raised
through Living is Giving and Synod investments.
6
So each congregations contribution is vital,
supporting ministries in many diverse areas
7
Lyndal Irons
The work of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander
Christian Congress incorporates pastoral care,
training, camps, evangelism, worship, and working
for reconciliation.
8
Our Far West patrol padre, flying padre (based at
Broken Hill), chaplain on the ski fields, and
bush evangelist bring Christs love and hope to
people in rural and remote areas.
9
Our school and university chaplains and mission
workers are nurturing a new generation of
leaders, as well as ministering to faculty and
staff.
10
The Uniting Church is a multicultural church
workshops and resources help us to develop
cross-cultural relationships and awareness.

11
The Youth Unit aims to bring young people to
faith in Christ, empowering them to experience
and explore discipleship and outreach.

Our hospital chaplains provide support,
encouragement and guidance for people facing some
of lifes most distressing experiences.
13
The Uniting Church is driven by the gospel. Our
mission and evangelism workers seek to develop a
culture of faith sharing, helping people to
spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

New congregations and faith communities help the
church to connect in new and creative ways with
the people around it.
15
The Childrens Ministry Unit works to nurture,
support and inspire children and give them a
voice in church too.

Theological education helps people to grow in
their relationship with God and communicate the
Christian faith and experience to others.
17
The Uniting Church consistently takes up its
calling to be a voice for the voiceless in
Australian society, and to work for justice,
fairness and peace.
18
Mental health and prison chaplains work with some
of the most broken and vulnerable people in the
community.
19
Training and education to equip people for lay
ministry is a growing need, particularly in rural
and remote areas. The ELM Centre helps people
develop skills for ministry.
20
Through agencies and local congregations,
UnitingCare provides a
broad range of services to children, young people
and families.
21
Congregations can focus their giving on one or
more of these mission areas. Or they may decide
that part or all of their contribution will
be a general (undesignated) contribution, similar
to a tithe.
22
This money supports the mission of the Synod,
Assembly, presbyteries, congregations or new
faith communities wherever it is most needed
23
For example, to provide mission resource funding
for congregations and presbyteries (1/3 of the
Synod Fund goes here).
24
and to support Uniting International Mission and
Uniting Church Overseas Aid in their advocacy,
evangelism and aid and development work in
countries like Indonesia, East Timor and the
Solomon Islands.
25
The Uniting Church cant afford to regard Living
is Giving as an optional extra. The concept
of stewardship lies at the heart of the Christian
faith. It is a call to engage with Gods work in
the world to share our money, gifts, and time
in justice and compassion so that all have enough.
