• 1531 December 8
• Juan Diego is walking through a valley when
• The Virgin Mary appeared on the hill before Juan
  Diego
• She asked him to build a church at the bottom of
  the hill

• The first visit to Bishop Fry de Zamarraga Diego
  waited for hours and never spoke to him
• The second visit he did speak with the Bishop
  but was told to bring proof

The Story

• Diego returned to Mary who was waiting on the
  hill. She told him to return to her tomorrow
• He did not because his Uncle was ill
• Mary cured his uncle and asked him to gather
  flowers

• He gathered the flowers in a robe, then Mary
  arranged them
• He took this to Zamrraga. When the flower fell
  to the floor an image of Mary appeared on the robe
