UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, ZIMBABWEBRIEF BACKGROUND

• Established in 1893 by United Church of Christ.
  Formerly the American Board Mission.
• UCCZ composed of the general synod, conferences,
  councils and the local churches.
• 60 congregations - 40,000 church members
• Church focus is on evangelism, rural development,
  education and health care.
• Mens Fellowship, Womens Fellowship and the
  Youth Fellowship contribute much to the life and
  witness of the UCCZ

• Clinic dispensary opened in 1893.
• Full-fledged hospital opened 1912
• Hospital has 150 beds, maternity ward, TB Ward,
  Pediatrics Ward
• Currently no full-time Doctor
• Nurse practitioner attends to all medical needs
  procedures.
• More than 20 outreach rural clinics posts
• Childrens Home on hospital premises (Orphanage)
• Hospital trains primary care nurses
• Acute shortage of equipment, facilities
  supplies

• Goal is monthly visits by nurses

• Support needed for fuel, transportation, supplies
  medication, salaries, etc.
• Mobile Clinic??

MOUNT SELINDA ORPHANAGE (Daisy Dube Childrens
Home)

• Houses 50 orphans -
• Infant to 18 years old.
• One or both parents died of AIDS complications
• Some abandoned by poor relatives
• One building w/ female male sleeping rooms,
  baby nursery, kitchen dining room.
• Theyattend day care on premises and older kids
  attend mission school

• Clothing
• Funds for food supplies
• School supplies
• Assistance with school fees Uniforms
• 100 supports one child for 3 months

• Blankets and mattresses
• Clothes, shoes, towels
• Plumbing, toilet repairs, paint
• New kitchen, washer dryer
• Fence around the orphanage compound
• Play room, toys, TV, radios, etc.

MOUNT SELINDA ORPHANAGEFORMAL STRUCTURES NEEDED

• Formal arrangements structure needed for future
  giving.
• Options include working with the UCCZ Head office
  or local NGOs.
• Husband wife missionaries from New England area
  scheduled to serve at Mount Selinda Mission
  starting September 2009 - May assist to
  coordinate monitor things on the ground.
