Where is Israel?

• A country in Western Asia on Southeastern Edge of
  the Mediterranean Sea.
• One of two nation states in Middle East (Other
  being Lebanon)
• System of parliamentary democracy
• A democratic government that has separation of
  powers between the executive and legislative
  branches.

War between Lebanon and Israel

• July 12th Israels goal was to recover two Israli
  servicemen that were seized by Hizballah in a
  cross-border that same day
• Attacks were made on the Beirut International
  Airport to prevent Hizballah from smuggling the
  prisoners out of Lebanon

Why Now?

• The ongoing imprisonment of three Lebanese in
  Israel is an outstanding grievance against
  Israel.
• Therefore as revenge Lebanese kidnapped Israeli
  soldiers.
• Didnt inform when this would take place.

The Attacks

• Lebanese attacked the place where main meetings
  took place for Islamist partys political and
  military leadership and harbor batteries of the
  rockets that Hizballah sent into northern Israel
• Hizballah (party of god) a well respected leader
  for his strategic and tactical intelligence of
  decision-making.
• In 1983 largest lethal bombing of the Marine
  Corps Barracks in Beirut killing 241 Marines.
• In response Israel bombs power stations, a
  lighthouse, dairies and factories, trucks
  ferrying medical supplies from Syria, minivans
  packed with Lebanese refugees.

The Plan

• Israel wants to use Lebanons heightened tensions
  to bring Hizballahs military capacity into line
  with the conventions of international law.
• Since US is supported Israel Bush stated that
  Israel and the US hopefully wont weaken the
  Lebanese government.

Will there be a Civil War?

• Israel doesnt care about what goes on inside
  Lebanons borders.
• Want Hizballah to be militarily neutralized
  whether it means disarming them or putting an
  effective international and Lebanese buffer
  between militants and the Israeli border.
• Depending on Iran and Syria and whether they have
  a say on the event.
