business organizations - Promotes sensible growth
- Strengthen economic competitiveness of Chicago
region - Revitalize, support existing communities
- Promote new development that is walkable,
pedestrian friendly, transit-oriented and - that protects natural resources
3Land consumption in Chicago region is increasing
at rapid rate
- Developed land could double over next 30 years

2020 25 increase - Developed land forecast 55 increase
4Americans are seeking more open space, parks
- 83 favor establishing zones for green space,
farming, forests that would be off limits to
developers - 77 favor government using tax dollars to buy
land for more parks and open space and to protect
wildlife - In 1999, Americans ranked sprawl, traffic top
concern, over crime, jobs or local problems
