- Accessible from the UN Home Page by clicking on
United Nations News Centre - Site is updated throughout the day
- Press releases are sometimes the only available
source of statements made in meetings - Press releases are available from the end of
1995 onwards - Example
- On the left-hand side, under Press Releases,
select Latest to retrieve the last 30 press
releases organised in reverse date order (most
recent at the top of the page).
3Press Releases Example
It is possible to change the number of press
releases retrieved by entering a number in the
box at the top right-hand side and selecting
Submit. However, only those press releases
produced during the last month will be retrieved.
4Press Releases Example continued
Note that we have chosen to display the latest
100 press releases. Select the symbol or
headline of a press release to obtain the full
text.
5Press Releases Example continued
6Press Releases Example continued
To find earlier press releases an Archives search
is necessary. The Archives section of the
database covers press releases from the end of
1995 onwards but excludes press releases from the
last 30 days. Select Archives from the options
at the top right-hand side.
7Press Releases Example continued
An archives search will look for key words in the
headline of a press release, not the full
text. To find press releases with children in
the headline, using the Archives search, enter
the word children into the key words box and
select Find.
8Press Releases Example continued
This search retrieves all press releases on
children.
9Press Releases Example continued
To refine this search, a subject from the
drop-down menu on this page may be combined with
the keyword(s). For example, from the
drop-down menu, select Secretary-General
Statements (SG/SM/). This symbol is the prefix
used for all statements made by the
Secretary-General.
10Press Releases Example continued
Statements made by the Secretary-General are now
retrieved. Searches may also be refined by
entering dates in the appropriate boxes of the
search screen and/or by entering a press release
prefix into the Symbol box. Press release
prefixes are listed at http//www.un.org/Depts/dhl
/resguide/press1.htm Remember that an Archives
search looks for key words in headlines only and
the short headlines of press releases may not
cover the full scope of the content expressed.
