Goals of the Project

• Compare naturally occurring landscapes to
  artifically created ones
• Determine the differences in effectiveness of
  different random algorithms

Parameters

• We obtained a 2002 vector-based land cover map of
  the Pompton, Pequannock, Wanaque, Ramapo
  watershed management area from the New Jersey
  Department of Environmental Protection
• Contained six patch types
• Water
• Wetlands
• Urban
• Agriculture
• Forest
• Barren
• Landscape cropped to 256x256 cells

• Nearest neighbor rule (4 neighbor)
• Probability of each patch type occurring equal to
  those in the real landscape
• Multifractal random map
• Nearest neighbor rule (4 neighbor)

  those in the real landscape
• Artificial landscape 256x256 cells
