The Evolution of El Camino Real
  • Started, as all roads do, as a simple trail
  • Expanded, by incremental steps to meet each
    generations challenges
  • It now carries more traffic, runs through more
communities, and hosts more businesses and
residents than any other single street on the
    Peninsula
  • It is our most important single street, and it
never has had the benefit of a planning process
    with all stakeholders participating

The Vision of a Grand Boulevard
  • One of the enduring visions of the Peninsula has
been the raising of El Camino Real from its

in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
  • This is the intent of The Grand Boulevard Project

The Goal
  • Using a committee comprised of representatives of
major stakeholders, adopt guiding principles that
would work to improve the effectiveness and the
appearance of El Camino from San Francisco to San
    Jose
  • Seek implementation funding to assist communities
that choose to incorporate these principles into
their General Plan. This would be in addition to
    the C/CAG ECR Incentive Program
