Helicopter Parents
  • Who do you think they are?
  • Controlling
  • Over-protective
  • View their child as infallible
  • Distrusting of the institution
  • Always calling
  • Dont let their student do anything for themselves

4
Quotes
  • I am in touch with him daily. I purchased web
cameras so he may see his family when ever
needed. I made a poster of our dog, so he is
    always with him.
  • I believe parents should have the right to ALL
information on their child while they are
    enrolled in college.

5
Changing Perceptions
  • We will never be rid of the true helicopter
    parents
  • In reality we WANT all parents to be helicopters
  • The beach ball
  • Our goal should be to ground them with real,
    tangible, valuable information.

    to campus .

What do students say?
  • Since I was young, my parents pushed me really
hard.. Now I am able to get good grades without
constantly being lectured to do so.
  • I am very happy with it my parents
involvement because I know that they are there
for me if I need them but I also know that I
don't have to tell them something if I don't deem
    it necessary.

13
What do Parents Say?
  • I only pay the bill - education and academic
decisions are entirely up to him.

  • I remind him of deadlines to keep him on
    target.
