Homework
  • Homework is an integral part of a school day. As
a first grader, your child will be responsible to
    complete homework assignments Monday-Thursday.
Homework will always be sent home in your childs
homework folder. In addition to the nights
written assignment, students are expected to read
or to be read to for 15 minutes every night.
Students should also complete at least 15
calendar assignments from the EDM calendar sent
home at the beginning of each month. Please go
over the homework with your child each night and
have them correct any mistakes. Parents should
also sign the homework/calendar every night to
indicate it has been reviewed and checked.

9
Homework Tips
  • A routine
  • A quiet area to work with adequate lighting
  • A desk, table, or hard surface to write on
  • Supply of pencils, crayons, and erasers

10
Homework Incentive
  • Starting in October, your child will have the
opportunity to earn a homework pass. Each
morning, your child will be responsible to put
their homework on their desk. If all of their
homework has been completed, your child will
receive a star for that day. If an assignment has
not been completed, the missing assignment will
be recorded and your child will be responsible to
complete the missing assignment the following
evening. At the end of each month, those students
who have completed all homework assignments for
the month will be awarded a homework pass to be
    used at their leisure.

  • Raise your hand before you speak
  • Use kind words
  • Look at and listen to the teachers
  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself
  • Be polite use your manners

13
Classroom Consequences
  • Warning
  • Loss of recess time
  • Time out The student will leave the group
setting to think about what they have done and
what they can do to improve. The student will
return to the group when they feel they are ready
or when the teacher feels it is appropriate.
  • Phone call home to students parents.
  • Student will write an apology letter to the
student or to the adult to whom they offended.
  • If severe discipline action is required, the
student will be sent to the office to meet with
    Mrs. Taylor.

Each case will be handled on an individual
basis to meet each students needs.
14
  • Throughout the school year, I will emphasize the
importance of manners, following directions, and
respecting the needs and feelings of others. The
students will be working in group settings
throughout the year, and they will become
knowledgeable about working with each other in a
    cooperative manner.
  • I hope you will help me reach out to the students
to make them aware of the importance of all of
the above. Working together, we can make this
    happen!

15
Positive Reinforcement
  • Effort Slips!!
  • Throughout each day, the students will have
    opportunities to earn effort slips.
  • Display of Crooked Billet character
  • Display of extra effort during independent work
    time.
  • Going above and beyond
  • Completing quality work
  • Assisting a classmate/staff member
  • The students will be responsible to collect and
keep their slips in a safe place.
  • On designated trade-in days (Tuesday), students
will have the opportunity to trade in their
effort slips for prizes. The prizes can be
redeemed at the students leisure, unless there
    is scheduling involved.

students, but he will also help the students
improve their writing and speaking skills.
  • Every Friday, a child will be chosen to take
Jerry home for the weekend! This student will
have the opportunity to care for and share Jerry
with their family for the entire weekend. The
student will be responsible to record in the
notebook provided what they did with Jerry for
the weekend. Family involvement is highly
encouraged with this project. The student will
come back to school on Monday and share with the
class what he/she did with Jerry. My goal is the
students will be able to write a few sentences on
their own about their experiences, and they will
be able to speak in front of their peers, with
    ease.

Star Tally
  • Each week the students will be given five stars.
  • Our class goal is to have all five stars on
    Friday afternoon.
  • Throughout the week, Mrs. Traczykiewicz or Miss
Kilroy will add or erase stars when appropriate.
  • If the students have five stars on Friday
