What is PLATO?

• A web based Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
  Where you can
• Host content in many forms (Multimedia)
• Deliver a training programme in different ways
• Host discussions
• Assess and feedback using in built tools
• Track trainees progress in gradebook
• Monitor trainee activity

Principles

• Properly managed and coordinated service (as PG
  teaching/ study leave)
• Makes use of existing resources
• Royal College, E-Learning for Healthcare, BMJ
  Learning, Doctors.org etc.
• Identify and fill gaps where we can (Acute Pain,
  Child protection)
• Driven by evidence base (engagement, outcomes,
  Retention)

• Provides benefits to Trainees and Education
  Supervisors
• A National Curriculum, delivered locally QAd by
  PMETB
• Using multiple resources and teaching learning
  methods to provide a richer learning environment

Using PLATO

• ELU is here to support and work with you
• Initial Pilot with ENT evaluated well
• Integrate with wider training and Supervision
• Signpost from clinical, Postgrad teaching, F2F
  sessions can be enhanced with E as Prerequisite
• Proposed model JB to demo
• Not one size fits all
• We should continue to evaluate this unique
  approach

• There are keen folk out there Can STCs nominate
  individuals/ volunteers ?
• Look at Curriculum
• Identify areas where a technology enhanced
  solution is appropriate
• work with ELU to provide solutions
