Title: My City: Who thinks what
1My City Who thinks what ?

We had glorious weather throughout our stay in
X-Town. In fact, it was so hot that I wished
there had been a place where you could go
bathing. In my hometown there are several
open-air swimming baths, something which does not
seem to be as common in England. There was a
lovely fountain in the town-centre though, with
several trendy cafés with outdoor tables around
where you can hang out with your mates. Great
ice-cream too! I would have loved to get out into
the countryside but I never managed to work out
the public transport system.

Excellent shopping facilities, great night life
and interesting people! I absolutely loved my
time in X-Town! What really impressed me was the
range of fashionable clothes and hi-tech gadgets
in the shops. And no one seemed to mind you just
browsing. In fact the shop assistants did not
care much what you did in the shop not like at
home where you cant even look at an item without
being accosted by several shop assistants at
once!

I have been to X-Town before, because we have
relatives there who we used to visit quite a bit
when I was a child. I have not been for the last
10 years though and was amazed how the place had
changed! So many new and modern buildings, the
pedestrian zone in the town centre is a real
improvement and I am pleased that they now have
put a roof over the main shopping precinct. It
does take ages though to get into the centre, the
traffic is horrendous and public transport is not
very good not enough buses and they are not very
clean.

It is not easy to get to X-Town. From my town in
Poland to the train-station in X-Town it took
nearly eleven hours. I was absolutely shattered
when we arrived two different flights, changing
trains three times, delayed trains, missing
connections it was shocking! The British
transport system is not as good as I had
expected.

I did not know what to expect of X-Town before I
came. I had never heard of the place. X-Town is
little known in Poland, but I think it is a very
special town. There is not a lot to do in the
evenings, but the people are very nice. Nearly
everyone I met was very open-minded and ready to
exchange ideas and opinions.

The town itself was not bad on the whole but
what shocked me was the amount of litter all over
the place. Nobody seems to care about where they
put their rubbish. I saw, for example, people
walking past litter bins only to throw their
chocolate wrapper on the floor a couple of meters
further down the road. There were empty bottles
and broken glasses outside pubs with no one
moving them for days. Does no one take pride in
their town?
