10 Commandments

• First three relate to God
• 1. I am the Lord your God, you shall not have
  strange gods before me
• 2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your
  God in vain
• 3. Remember to keep holy the Lords Day
• Next seven to others
• 4. Honor your father and mother
• 5. You shall not kill
• 6. You shall not commit adultery
• 7. You shall not steal
• 8. You shall not bear false witness against your
  neighbor
• 9. You shall not covet your neighbors spouse
• 10. You shall not covet your neighbors goods

1st Commandment

• From Exodus, three characteristics associated
  with God
• 1. All powerful
• Grounds for our hope Nothing will be
  impossible with God. 
• 2. Loving
• Freely given does not want it forced back in
  return 1 John 410 Romans 58 
• 3. Liberating
• Need to be attentive to forms of enslavement
  that keep one in chains as well as to the false
  gods that lure one away from God trying to
  control ones life

Ways people stray

• 1. Minimizing Gods importance
• a. Indifference Acedia not caring,
  listlessness, laziness, boredom, the lack of
  joy that comes from God
• b. Ingratitude
• c. Hatred of God 
• CURE Adoration

• 2. Superstition attributing magical power to
  certain practices or things Reliance on this
  power rather than trust in God. 
• 3. Tempting God
• Asking God to prove his power and providential
  love as condition for believing in him

• 4. Sacrilege
• Profane or treat with disrespect sacraments,
  liturgical actions, persons, things places
  consecrated to God 
• 5. Simony
• Buying/selling spiritual things which have God
  alone as their owner (i.e. Gods forgiveness in
  the sacrament of Penance) 
•  CURE GOOD RITUAL
• Helps us to be in touch with God and invites Him
  into our lives
• Examples lighting vigil candle as we also offer
  up prayers Sign of the Cross

2nd Commandment

• Without a sense of the sacred, all the other
  commandments are groundless. 
• Blasphemy speech or action that shows disrespect
  or contempt for God or persons or things
  dedicated to God 
• Highlights the sin of perjury (not telling the
  truth even though we have taken God as our
  witness so help me God..) Oaths are sacred.

3rd Commandment

• Celebrate Sunday with worship and rest
• Sunday celebrates the Resurrection
• Sunday Eucharist is communal because we
  strengthen one anothers faith and testify to
  Gods goodness and that He is the hope for the
  worlds salvation
• Holy Leisurere-creation/restoring that comes
  through Mass and leisure
