The history

• In 2006 ESN launched the ESN Survey about
  Exchange students rights that collected 12500
  answers
• The dissemination activity of the ESN Survey won
  an accompanying measures grant under SOCRATES
  (70000 euros), which was used for the project
  The celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the
  Erasmus Programme

Conclusion from the projects

• After 20 years of Erasmus still some problems
  exist
• Recognition only 50 of students get full
  recognition of studies abroad and 25 get no
  recognition at all

Accompanying measures grant

• ESN applied for a grant of 70000 euros for the
  PRIME project
• Total budget 98000 euros
• 60000 staff costs (project coordinator and
  secretary)?
• 23000 travel costs
• 15000 other costs (conferences and book)?
• Answer in June/July

• Is PRIME possible only if ESN will get the
  accompanying measures grant?

Every ESN section has already the potential to do
it!

Why being active in PRIME?

• Unique opportunity to really improve the ERASMUS
  programme
• The results are needed by the European Commission
  to take action
• The project reflects ESN vision and mission and
  students' needs
• ESN sections can collaborate with universities
  --gt stronger links, better support
• Possible financial support

PRIME project

• International coordinating team (coordinator and
  secretary) will manage the project
• Local ESN sections will actuate the project
• Aim to collect and compare procedures to apply
  for an Erasmus scholarship in different faculties
  in universities in Europe

Schedule of the project

• An international coordinating team is formed
  (project coordinator and secretary)?
• Local sections join the project
• A plan of action is prepared
• Research is conducted and local reports are
  prepared and given to the international
  coordinating team (until spring 2009)?
• 10 local dissemination conferences take place
  (spring 2009)?
• The final report is produced (10/2009)?
• A final conference in Brussels is organised
  (10/2009)?

What to do?

• ESN International still has to decide on the
  coordinating team guidelines .. and get grant
  after all
• ESN Riga still has to decide what and how to do
  here in Latvia...
• There is some time till summer but meanwhile I
  would like to know everyone interested to
  participate in the project...
