- Small Businesses rate Relief taken up scheme that
has provided a total of 110,000 relief to 132
local businesses - MK Offer to attract visitor economy through
effective marketing - Creation of One Stop Shop advice website

6What is the Future Jobs Fund?
- In the Budget 2009 the Government announced
Future Jobs Fund (1 billion) - Aims to create 150,000 jobs between October 2009
and April 2011 - Builds on proposal made in the Tackling
Worklessness review led by Cllr Stephen Houghton
7Bidding for Future Jobs Fund
- Who can Bid?
- Bids invited from anyone however strong
preference for Partnership bids - Led by Local Authority, sub-regional, city region
and local partnerships, or national or local
public third sector bodies - What makes a successful bid?
- Create additional new jobs for long term
unemployed people - Benefit the local community and
- Create a significant proportion of jobs quickly
- Create a minimum of 30 jobs in total
8Minimum Criteria for Future Jobs Fund
- Jobs must be additional
- Each job created must last 6 months
- Provide work for 25 hours or more per week
- Pay at least national minimum wage
- 18 to 24 unemployed for around 12 months or are
in unemployment hotspots - Benefit local communities
- Average cost not to exceed 6,500 per job
- Value for money

- Costs i.e. per job, start up costs, ongoing
costs. - Speed of delivery
- Additional funding streams
- Supporting Future Jobs Fund employees
- Bid credibility
10Contribution to Future Jobs Fund
- Government Contribution
- 6,500 per job, can include admin and set up
costs etc - Milton Keynes Council (MKC) and Partners
Contribution - MKC to lead in this project
- MKC and Partners to co-ordinate a bid to the
Future Jobs Fund on behalf of MK employers - MKC to fund a training programme for all new
employees no cost to employers - Monitoring and reporting through the duration of
the project

17FUTURE JOBS FUND - PRINCIPLES
- Aims to create 150,000 jobs for 18-24 year olds
at a disadvantage in Labour market - Bids from Councils, LSPs and Third Sector
Partnership Bids encouraged led by Councils - Criteria-
- Jobs will last for at least 6 months 25 hours
or more per week to at least minimum wage - Jobs for long term unemployed can include some
older people - Jobs are additional they would not otherwise
exist - The work will benefit local communities
- At least 100 additional jobs per bid created
- Recruitment via JC - First round jobs to start
