1- CIRCLE OF CARE PROJECT andHIV / AIDSWHAT YOU
SHOULD KNOW - Sheila Sullivan, AGAPE
2What is Circle of Care Circle of Care project
enlist African American churches to provide HIV
prevention education at their site on an ongoing
basis. AGAPE Staff trains a site coordinator
selected by the congregation at each church to
conduct training for their members and their
surrounding neighborhood.
3Matthew 71 Do not judge or you too will be
judged- People in congregations suffer in
silence because they are afraid of the judgment
that exist inside of the sanctuary. They hide in
plain sight and die without comfort from those
who are called to comfort. These people are part
of the body. When the body is ailing, shouldnt
the well part see to its healing? Selah
4WHY IS IT IMPORTANT As churches in black
communities, we are unaware of how this epidemic
has attacked our people and the lasting effects
that it has on the life of the church. We fail
to make the connection between our community and
ourselves.
5Hosea 46My people are destroyed from lack of
knowledge.
6WHO GETS INFECTED
7ANY MAN WOMAN CHILD WHO IS EXPOSED TO THE
VIRUS REGARDLESS OF THEIR RELIGION OR UPBRINGING
8KNOW YOUR STATUS The only way to know if you
are infected with HIV is to get tested!
9- THE STIGMA
- Stigma means discrimination, shame, disgrace or
dishonor. - Stigma is one of the main factors why people
dont want to get tested for HIV. - Stigma has destroyed relationships, families and
communities. - Stigma keeps people from disclosing their status
to those who need to know.
10John 87 if any one of you is without sin, let
him be the first to throw a stone ...
11As the reigning saints, we forget that it is by
Grace that we made it in without the marks of our
own transgressions. We were once in the world
and thought nothing could ever happen to us.
Lets have real conversations with each other.
Lets show each other understanding, the Love of
God and his mercy without condemnation.
12What is our Responsibility?
