This Summer and Fall
  • GOES-12 remains primary (75) for East
  • GOES-11 transition as primary West (135) as of
6/28/2006. There was a minimal loss of 7 minutes
of WEST DCS data during the event.
  • GOES-10 still moving (60) for the South American
    mission. GVAR on-line 18 Nov.
  • GOES13 Successful launch in May, PTL testing was
performed over the summer months. Goes into
storage for two years on 27 Dec 06.
  • The GOES EAST operations will utilize either
GOES-10 or 13 in the event of a GOES-12 failure.

New OSDPD Building
  • The purpose of the OSDPD is To ensure that
critical ops continueat NOAAs NESDIS and the
    Environmental Satellite Processing Center.
  • Wallops is awaiting notification for the systems
    delivery and installation date.
  • Will cover ALL OSDPD products to include Polar,
International, and GOES (EMWIN, LRIT, SatSat,
    GINI, etc.)

Wallops Backup
  • EMWIN and LRIT equipment has been installed at
    the WBU (also FCDAS)
  • A second pilot is active (channel 0) at the WBU
  • Mission failovers to GOES-10/11/12 (WBU) and
GOES-10/11 (FCAS) have been successful as
    validation of the COOP.
  • Wallops staff can now remotely control the WBU
    systems from Wallops

DEMODULATORS
  • Final phase for the DSP DAMS-NT demods have been
installed for GOES-East and West DCS subsystem.
  • Currently DCS has 120 DAMS-NT each for both East
and West DCPR, not including spares . The system
no longer has the legacy Telcom or Vitel units.
  • In Sept. the DSP demods were networked to the
LRGS system. The user community has real-time
data access via to the LRGS system.
  • This translates into a direct feed from the
demods to the LRGS for Internet users therefore,
we are bypassing the DOMSAT feed from DAPS to
    populate the LRGS.
  • This gives Wallops an on-site backup for Internet
traffic that is removed from the heritage DAPS.

LRIT
  • Transfer of data to Suitland continues to be a
    double single point failure
  • LRIT is dependent on the Internet
  • LRIT can be received directly off the GOES
spacecraft, eliminating the need for DOMSAT which
    only see the CONUS.
  • Flooding of the LRIT messages was corrected with
the separation of the DOMSAT (the direct feed to
the LRGS) and a software upgrade.
  • Wallops has implemented a quality monitoring
system that compares LRIT messages sent from DCS
to those received on the LRIT downlink. If a
message fails to make it through the system there
is one re-transmission from the LRIT source
    system.
  • To address DCS LRIT COOP vendor contacted to
inject DCS into LRIT stream at WCDAS, WBU, and
    FCDAS

14
DAPS
  • In Sept. had a failure with the Nokia checkpoint
firewall. It was replace with a new Cisco ASA
5510 firewall. Prepared new firewall with user
names and new passwords. WCDA is planning on a
    Dec. 4th transition.
  • Numerous problems with DOMSAT and
retransmissions. New procedure was released and
link was separated from DAPS-1. DCS data is
networked to the LRGS directly from the DAMS-NT
    units.
  • Experienced some truncated/parity problems with
some messages. Fix was antenna alignment and
pilot power adjustment. New procedure for
    technicians was released.
  • The DCS network is on its own separate LAN
  • Since the last TWG new servers for CDADATA, DROT,
    CDABACKUP (DROT1), Webpage were installed.

DCS FIREWALL ACCESS
  • For added security and reliability the DCS
Technicians will add a strong authentication
    process to DAPS.
  • This will occur during the 1st week of Dec 2006.
  • Prior to this event, the users should call the
DCS help desk to inquire about their password.
The password will be unique per user and assigned
by the DCS Technicians. 757-824-7450 or 7451.
  • The login process will change, in that the
firewall will start authenticating users, and the
users will need to login to the firewall using
their existing DCS username and the assigned
strong password. You will not be able to change
it, and if forgotten, you will be required to
call in to the DCS Technicians to receive it.
  • Upon a successful login to the firewall, you will
need to login to DCS using your existing DCS
    credentials, those will not change.

17
LRGS
  • As of Sept 2006 the DAMS-NT demodulators data is
fed directly to the LRGS servers.
  • The LRGS and LRIT software live on the same
server. There is a full backup on line at
Wallops. The IP addresses are CDADATA -
    205.156.2.174 and CDA_BACKUP -205.156.2.189
  • This configuration avoids any duplication of
    DOMSAT messages.

DAPS-II
  • The Government has settled the ISI claim
  • With the approval of OSPD, DAPS-II equipment has
been distributed to other areas to support the
    GOES mission.

DCPI
  • NTIA is waiting for NOAA to provide GOES-N
    frequency filing information
  • Technical specifics on the DCPI transmitters
  • Measured performance values of the DCPI
    transmitters
  • During the summer WCDAS personnel met with NOS
and Sutron to discuss plan of using DCPI link
    with CDMA transmission format.
