Knowledge-based Society - some implications

• information is readily and globally accessible
• the dynamics of change are so rapid that
  traditional methods of training and education
  will be found wanting
• discipline-based knowledge will be inadequate to
  prepare for living in modern communities and
  workplaces

Heutagogy

• The heutagogical approach can encompass informal
  learning, where the individual person has not
  identified a learning need but only the potential
  to learn from each novel experience as a matter
  of course, recognising the opportunity to act and
  reflect on the action to see how it challenges,
  disconfirms or supports existing values and
  assumptions

Heutagogy

• goes beyond the valuing of experience and
  interaction with others and beyond problem
  solving
• endows the learner with the capacity to act
  proactively on the environment, to explore and
  learn from self-chosen and self-directed action
• is a recipe to move beyond the possible

  interests of dominant institutions and beyond the
  status quo within society.
