2The Water Cycle
- The water cycles energy is the sun. It starts by
the water Evaporating into Condensation then
forms into Precipitation called rain, snow, hail or
sleet. Then it collects in the ocean and starts
all over again.
3Evaporation
- Evaporation is the first step in the water cycle.
The water heats the sun and then the water rises
and expands. Then it turns into condensation.
4Condensation
- Condensation is the second step in the water
cycle. When the water expands it turns into clouds
or condensation. Condensation is made up of tiny
ice crystals.
5Precipitation
Precipitation is the third step in the water
cycle.Precipitation is in the forms of
rain,hail,sleet and snow.After condensation turns
into precipitation it collects in the ocean. This
next step is called collection.
6Collection
- Collection is the last step in the water
cycle. The water collects in the ocean and then
starts to evaporate and starts the water cycle
all over again.
7Clouds
These clouds are called cumulonimbus clouds. They
are a mixture of cumulus and nimbus clouds.
8What are Cirrus Clouds?
- Cirrus clouds are high wispy clouds made of ice
crystal.Cirrus clouds mean fare weather.Cirrus
clouds only form at high altitudes.Sometimes they
mean a storm is coming.They are 40,000ft(12,000m)
high in the air.
9What are Stratus Clouds?
- Stratus clouds have low altitude layers. They
bring or mean light rain or fog. They cover high
ground.Stratus clouds stretch across the sky. They
are 2000m high in the sky.
10What are Cumulus clouds?
- Cumulus clouds indicate fare weather. They are big
and fluffy clouds. They may develop into storm
clouds.Cumulus clouds mean heap.Cumulus clouds
are below 7,000ft.
11What are Nimbus Clouds?
- Nimbus clouds are the lowest clouds. They mean
rain clouds. Nimbus clouds are the dark clouds
under the Cumulus clouds. They carry lots of
water droplets. They are 3km off the ground.
12Forecasting Weather Tools 1
This is a rain gauge. It is used to measure how
much precipitation you get.
This is a barometer. It measures air pressure.
This is a anemometer. It is used to measure wind
speed.
13Forecasting Weather Tools 2
This is a Thermometer. It is used to measure the
temperature.
This is a Windsock. It is used to tell you which
direction the wind is going.
14What is used to measure wind speed and direction?
An anemometer is used to measure wind speed. It
spins as fast as the wind goes.It is used to help
the airplanes.
A weather vane measures wind direction. It tells
you what direction the wind is going in.
15Temperature
Temperature is measured in a thermometer. The
alcohol is the red stuff in a thermometer.
Mercury is the silver stuff in the
thermometer. The zero on the thermometer is in the
middle. The minuss is the cold weather and the
normal temperature is the plain numbers. At zero
water freezes and at 100 degrees water boils.
16Possibility of Precipitation
- Possibility of precipitation means when rain is
going to fall. The weather forecasters on the
weather network tell you in percentages. If it is
100 it means it is going to rain for sure and if
it is 50 it means it might rain.
17Humidity
Humidity is used to measure the air pressure in
the air. It is told in percentages. If it is
100 it means there is lots of air pressure in
the air. If there is 10 it means there isnt
much air pressure,Humidity is the moisture in the
air,
18Water evaporation
This is a small jar.
These are Petri dishes
This is a pill bottle.
This is a drinking cup.
We put 20ml of water in every cup and we saw
which evaporated the fastest.
19Hot Air Rises Experiment
We took a glass cup full of water and put red die
in it.Then we took a candle and lit it.Then we
put the candle underneath the jar and saw the
red die rise up.
