Who/what is CREATE Australia?
  • CREATE is the national industry training advisory
    body (ITAB) for the ARTS, MEDIA and ENTERTAINMENT
    industries
  • CREATE works with industry, providers AND
    practitioners to develop WORK STANDARDS
  • CREATE Australia is funded by ANTA to develop VET
    standards

Features of the VET Training System
  • Standards-based training
  • Managed by ANTA and State Training Authorities
  • Based on outcomes, not the process of training,
    therefore allow for recognition of prior learning
    (RPL) using assessments and evidence
  • Libraries can train to the gaps in skills
  • Qualifications are nationally recognised

What are WORK STANDARDS?
  • They are
  • Statements of skills and knowledge APPLIED in a
    workplace context
  • Developed by industry
  • Used by industry to assess workplace skills and
    knowledge
  • They are NOT
  • Curriculum
  • Teaching materials

Current gaps in libraries training
  • Lifelong learning is crucial and practitioners
    must develop information literacy competencies
    for themselves, their colleagues and their
    clients
  • Key skills are required in analysing, acquiring,
    synthesising, organising, conserving, evaluating
    and disseminating information
  • Regional areas require more training, especially
    IT and website training

Current gaps in libraries training
  • Traineeships are needed within the industry
  • Requirement for more skills in information
    technology.
  • Need for training which is just in time, short,
    sharp and relevant to the workplace
