- Assessment for these units will be based on
- Your workshop participation and contribution
- The completion of the learning activities during
the workshop - Completion of a practical assessment task which
will be fully explained by your facilitator
4OVERVIEW
This workshop will cover the processes and
strategies that can be used to ensure that
training and assessment take place in, and comply
with, occupational health and safety
requirements
5KNOWLEDGE
- All learners need to know
- the hazards relevant to the industry in which
they are working or will work - occupational health and safety procedures
applicable the workplaces where they do or will
work - commonly used OHS symbols and signs
- the legal responsibilities of employers and
employees
6RESPONSIBILITY
- It is the responsibility of trainers and
workplace supervisors to assist people in
learning all that they need to know and do to
work safely - It is the responsibility of learners to
demonstrate safe work practices in all training
and assessment situations
7QUALITY
- The Australian National Training Authority
- (ANTA) and Training Package Developers
- (TPDs) have developed a number of
- guidance packages for RTOs, program
- designers, trainers and assessors
- ANTA is, however, no longer the overseeing body.
Its responsibilities have been transferred to the
Department of Education, Science and Training - (DEST)
8CONTEXT
- The qualifications of trainers, assessors or the
training and assessment team must also be
considered - They should cover the scope of the subject area
and the interrelated OHS competencies being
delivers in training and being assessed

14ASSESSING RISK
- OHS legislation is concerned with

through the organisation and design of work and
workplaces - Prevention through the recognition, evaluation
and control of the causes of occupational disease
and injury

- The employee, however, has a responsibility to
observe - the health and safety regulations and guidelines
- This applies equally to learners trainees and
new - apprentices

23REPORTING
All organisational personnel, whether they are
full time facilitators/ assessors or contracted
for discreet training/ assessment projects,
should know what the procedures are for reporting
hazards They must also know the reporting
procedures for any accidents or incidents that
occur in the learning environment or in
association with training and assessment
procedures
