Mutations

• DEFINITION A DNA is corrupted.
• Mutations are caused by Mutagens.
• Mutations are usually classified into two
  categories Chromosomal Mutations and Gene
  Mutations.

Germ cell mutations

• This type of mutation can be passed to the zygote
  and show up in the offspring.
• Mutation can also occur in the genetic material
  of the reproductive cells-sperm and eggs.

Somatic Mutations

• A mutation occurs in a body cell other than a
  sperm or an egg cell, that changes are pass on to
  all the cells that come from it as an result of
  mitosis.

Nondisjunction

• Nondisjunction occurs when homologous pairs of
  chromosomes fail to separate during meiosis.
• When this happens one of the resulting gametes
  has an extra chromosomes while the other gamete
  lacks a chromosome.

Monosomy

• Monosomy results when a cell is missing a
  chromosomes.
• Monosomy is usually more severe since all the
  genetic material on the missing chromosomes is
  lost.

Down syndrome

• Down syndrome is a disorder caused by
  nondisjuction.
• People with Down syndrome have an extra number 21
  chromosomes(Trisomy-21).

• Mutagens are substances or conditions that cause
  an error in replication of genetic material.

Trisomy

• Is the condition caused by a extra chromosomes in
  a cell.
• There is another type of Trisomy it is called
  Down syndrome.

• DEFINITION-Chromosomal Mutations can cause
  changes in the cell.
• If the Structure of a Chromosome or the number of
  chromosome is called Chromosomal Mutation.
