    all Americans
  • 15th No disqualifying people from voting based
    on race.

  • 2.) Grandfather Clause said you can only vote
    if your Grandfather did.
  • 3.) Literacy Test
  • 4.) Intimidation

  • 1.) black codes laws that restricted freedmans
    rights. They made life almost as bad as slavery
    curfews, forced people to work live in certain
    places, fined people for not working.
  • 2.) 1866 passed Civil Rights Acts (outlawed
    black codes) 14th Amendment (guaranteed
    citizenship).

  • 3.) Congresss Reconstruction Plan opposed
    spread of black codes wanted to expand
    Republican Party in the South. Johnson was the
    opposite. Against military involvement.
  • 4.) Congress tried to impeach Johnson. He wasnt
    convicted.
  • 5.) Congress enforced the 15th Amendment by
    sending troops to the South. The result was that
    blacks voted other blacks into office.
  • 6. Carpetbagger Northern Republican who moved
    to the post-War south for profit/power. Scalawag
    White Southern Republican. Considered traitors
    by other Southerners.
