Need for Grading of AWCs
  • To have a system of periodic and repeated
    performance assessment of all AWCs on broad
    based criteria
  • To pinpoint specific areas of improvement as well
    as learn from best practices
  • To inculcate a sense of competition and therefore
    improved functioning by CDPOs
  • To track performance of AWCs / projects as a
    whole at the State level

Design of performa for Gradingof AWCs
  • State and Regional level meetings with DPOs/
    CDPOs/ Supervisors.
  • Brainstorming workshop at State level.
  • Identification of broad indicators.
  • Weightage to different indicators.
  • Designing of the FORMAT for grading of AWCs.
  • Field testing of the FORMAT-efficacy and time
    taken.
  • Adoption of the FORMAT and its circulation
    amongst the CDPOs.
  • 100 point grading Grade-I above 80, Grade-II
    above 70 to 80, Grade-III above 60 to 70 and
    Grade-IV 60 or below.

Monitoring
  • All CDPOs to visit at least 10 AWCs in a month
    for grading of AWCs.
  • Monthly reports are submitted through DPOs to
    Directorate on prescribed FORMAT
  • Information is compiled, processed and analysed
    at Directorate level.
  • Interventions are communicated to the DPOs for
    improvements and achievements of one distt. are
    conveyed to others for information , guidance
    and replication.

Impact of GRADING
  • Experience sharing by field functionaries amongst
    themselves.
  • Easy identification of bottlenecks / limitations.
  • Helpful in finding objective basis for
    corrections/ improvements and proper strategy
    formulation.
  • Good measurable instrument for assessing the
    efforts of ICDS functionaries.
  • Graduation of AWCs and their upward mobility is
    monitored through focused efforts.
  • Easy to indicate areas of improvement to AWWs.

  • Tracking the movement of each AWC from one grade
    to another and of improvement in each indicator.
  • Community involvement in grading.
  • Ensuring regularity in grading
  • Need to formulate monitorable indicators within
    identified parameters
