Government
  • There are many types of government that Ancient
    Greece used.
  • They were oligarchy, monarchy, tyranny, and
    democracy.
  • Democracy is what we use today.
  • Democracy didnt form until the people werent
happy with their rulers and they started to
    leave.
  • Well at least some did.

3
Monarchy
  • Monarchy is a form of government which land is
ruled by a king, queen, or emperor, or any source
    of royalty.
  • In the late Bronze age (between about 2000-1200)
every city-state was ruled by a monarchy.
  • After the dark age, only a few Greek city-states
    were ruled by a monarchy.

4
Oligarchy
  • Oligarchy is a form of government which only a
    few people rule.
  • Most city-states in the Archaic period were ruled
    by oligarchies.
  • Which a group of aristocrats (rich men) bossed
everyone around and told every one what to do
because they were the ones that ruled.

5
Tyranny
  • Where 1 person comes and takes over and rules by
    force.
  • Tyrannies helped but people didnt know that.
  • Tyrannies helped by trying to help people realize
that if they cooperated behind and strong ruler
that they could be the best.
  • Well tyrannies didnt happen until the 600s or
    the 500s B.C.

6
Democracy
  • The Athenians invented the 1st democracy in 510
    B.C.
  • Where everyone has power.
  • Wealthy citizens thought that it gave too much
    power to the poor.
  • But everyone could vote.
  • But many Greek city-states kept Oligarchic
    government, or tyrannies, or monarchies.
