trade interests in the western NY frontier - Connected various waterways with overland trade

4As you enter the national monument area, you will
come to the bridge that leads you into the heart
of the Fort
5As you step inside the Fort, you see the Gun of
Last Resort If an enemy was able to breach the
Forts defenses, this is fearsome sight that
would await them.
6The central courtyard and parade grounds of Fort
Stanwix

Behind the gun is the Adjutant's Daughter-
Also known as the whipping post.
The Central Courtyard and Parade Grounds were
used to train troops to march, be disciplined,
and have roll call.

10A Brief History of Fort Stanwix
- Fort Stanwix National Monument is a reproduction
of the Pre-Revolution British Fort and retains
the name from that time-period. - NO major battles
- Fort was completed as the French started to lose
the war - Was poorly garrisoned until 1774
- Americans took control of the Fort at the start
of the American Revolution - Rebuilt the for and changed the name to Fort
Schuyler - Fought in one major campaign of the war, during
1777
