• From Latin beati
• plural of beatus which meant "happy",
  "prosperous", "blessed", "fortunate
• from the verb beo, "to make happy", "to bless",
  "to gladden", "to gratify", "to refresh".
• Beatitudo means "happiness", "blessedness", etc.

Beatitudes Definitions

• Poor in spirit - Ps 3418 Ps 5117

• emptied of self-confidence, self-importance, and
  self-righteousness
• the opposite of that haughty, self-assertive and
  self-sufficient disposition which the world so
  much admires and praises the very reverse of
  that independent and defiant attitude

• gentle, self-controlled, unpretentious, without
  malice or desire for revenge.It actually has its
  root in the idea of taming a horse. A meek horse
  does not lose any strength, but its strength and
  will is submitted to its master.
