• A. Paul tells us in Romans 32 that the
• writers of the Bible were Jewish
• unto them (the Jewish people)
• were committed the oracles of God
• B. All the writers of the Bible were
• Jewish (with the possible exception of
  
• Luke)

• C. Almost every page of our beloved Bible was
  penned by a Jew through the superintendence of
  the Holy Spirit.
• D.Our Lord Jesus Christ was born of a Jewish

  studied, and taught in a Jewish Temple
  (synagogues).

• F. The first church was in Jerusalem and was
  predominantly Jewish.
• G. Paul, a Jewish believer in Jesus, was sent out

Jewish Themes in the Bible

• 1. Genesis Jewish Themes
• a. Genesis, and the rest of the O.T. is
  written in Hebrew -small Aramaic portions in
  Daniel, Jeremiah, Ezra, two words in Genesis
  3147 (Young,198).
• b. Apart from Hebrew, none of the words or
  names makes any sense. Hebrew the language of
  Adam and Eve, and of Jews too!
• Examples - Adam means earth/ground, God
• formed man from the earth/ground)
• The name Eve is related to the verb meaning
  to
• live And Adam called his wifes name Eve
  
• because she was the mother of all living
  (320).

Hebrew 22 letters in the alphabet, read from
right to left. This is Genesis 11-5 in Hebrew.
Note the predominance of the number 7, Gods
number, in Genesis. There are 7 words in Genesis
11. (28 letters, 7x4).

• C. The unifying theological theme of the O.T. is
  Yahwehs covenant promise to Abram in Genesis
  121-3 (Hill Walton 48).
• D. This crucial passage represents the root of
  the Jewish theme in all Scripture it one of 8
  Covenants in the Bible and it is called The
  Abrahamic Covenant

E. The Abrahamic Covenant stated and confirmed
throughout Genesis

• 121-3, 127, 1314-17, 151-21, 171-21,
  2215-18
• There are 14 provisions in this Covenant Promise
  of God
• These 14 can be categorized into 3 areas 1.
  Abraham
• 2. to the Seed, Israel
• 3. to the Gentiles

• 1. Abraham father of a great nation, nations,
  kings, be a blessing, name great
• 2. To the Seed, the Jewish people (Israel)
  innumerable, a promised land to Abraham and his
  seed (still awaiting fulfillment for Abraham)
• 3. To the Gentiles blessed for blessing Jews,
  cursed for cursing Jews, ultimate blessing to
  come through the ultimate SEED of Abraham the
  Messiah Jesus !

• Ch. 17 Circumcision (sign of the Covenant)
• Ch. 18,21 The (Jewish) Son of Promise Isaac
• Ch. 24 A Jewish bride for Isaac
• Ch.25 27 Gods chooses Jacob, 12 sons become
  12 Tribes (note Hebrew names and related
  meanings)

• 7. Ch. 37-50 God preserves the Jewish people

H. Exodus Jewish Themes and the outworking of
the Abrahamic Covenant as seen in Exodus.

• I will bless them that bless thee, and him that
  curses thee will I curse
• Those who bless the Jews will be blessed, and
  those who curse the Jews will be cursed.
• This works it way out in human history on
  different levels that we will glance at
• individual level, national level,
• New Testament level, and post-biblical level
  (Fructhenbaum 2-5).

• Pharoahs house plagued due to Sarah (Gen 1210)
• Abimelechs women barren due to Sarah (Gen 201)
• Laban blessed by his proper relationship with
  Jacob (Gen 3025)
• Potiphar blessed by his proper relationship with
  Joseph (Gen 391)

National level

• Egypt sets out to curse Israel (Ex.18-11, 15-22)
• Egypt attempts genocide by means of drowning the
  newborn sons
• God slays the firstborn sons of Egypt in the last
  plague.
• Egypt drowns the Jewish infants, God drowns the
  Egyptian army in the sea
• This is very evident also in the book of Esther !

I. More Jewish Themes in Exodus

• Exodus we have a family clan of 75 becoming a
  nation, this is a Jewish nation, called Israel,
  descendants of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
• This new nation, the Jewish people are given an
  identity
• a purpose, and a Law, referred to as the
  Law of Moses or the Mosaic Covenant.
• 3. We have the giving of the 10 Commandments as
  part
• of the 613 Laws contained in the Mosaic
  Covenant.
• 4. NOTE this covenant was made between God and
  the
• Jews, NOT between God and the church. The
  church did not even exist yet, the church begins
  in Acts 2 Jesus said I WILL build my church
  future tense.

• 5. The Mosaic Law became inoperative at the death
  of Christ. All believers are living under The
  Law of Christ (see article Law of Moses Law
  of Messiah Ariel Ministries).
• Not under the Law of Moses Rom. 104 Gal 216,
  Heb. 719
• All Believers in Christ (Jewish and Gentile)
  should obey the Law of Christ Gal.319, 62
  Heb. 711-18 2 Cor. 32-11 Rom. 82

  Theme that points to Christ (Christ in the
  Passover Rosen, Celebrate the Feasts Zimmerman
  A Passover Haggadah for Jewish Believers
  Fruchtenbaum.
• Lets conduct a Passover Seder in class while
  studying Exodus or Christs Last Supper (buy some
  Matza and discuss the symbolism of that and of
  the afikomen)

• Look at the matza
• Striped (Isa 535)
• Pierced (Zech 1210)
• Without leaven (often a symbol of sin, 1 Cor
  56-8)

• 7. True Events in Passover also point to great
  truths in the Christian experience
• a. Pharaoh a type of Satan, enslaving
  the believer in bondage
• b. Egypt a type of the world system
  controlled by the slave master
• c. Blood of the Lamb the blood of
  Christ
• d. the Red Sea crossing from death to
  life, from Satan to Christ, a picture of our
  baptism into new life in Christ

• Lets look at A Messianic Jewish Calendar or buy
  one - www.TheGalileeExperience.com
• Note the days of week, Yom 1,2,3,4,5,6 and
  Shabbat. (Yom means day, Shabbat means Saturday).
  Yom 1 or Day 1 would correspond to our Sunday.
• Why do we, the church, celebrate/worship the 1st
  day of the week now and not observe the
  Shabbath/Shabbot? Resurrection? Acts?

Jewish themes in Lev, Num Deut.

• 2. Lev 26 and Deut 28-30 represent the prewritten
  history of the Jewish people and Jewish nation of
  Israel
• As you read through these chapters, and everyone
  should, consider how all of these prophesies have
  already come true consider just two
• The cannibalism predicted in Lev. 2627-33 was
  fulfilled in 2 Kings 628-29, the worldwide
  dispersion fulfilled in 70 AD
