What is the Pentagon?

• The headquarters of the U.S. Department of
  Defense
• The nerve center for command and control
• A city within itself.
• Approximately 23 000 employees, both military and

When and why was it built?

• The building was built during the early years of
  World War II (construction began 11 September
  1941, and completed 15 January 1943)
• To provide a solution to the War Departments
  critical shortage of space

• Five sides and five floor
