Archive Task Team

• led by Gian-Maria Pinna (ESA)
• who also attends CCSDS Panel 2 meetings
• Focus Archive low-level data interchange format
• just completed Baseband Data Concept
• This is now available for WGISS approval
• (will use 60-day review concept)
• ESA soon to issue Archive Interchange Format
  Feasibility Contract
• will report at next subgroup meeting
• maintaining links with CCSDS OAIS activity
• Open Archival Information Systems - ISO Archive
  Reference Model

Global Mapping and Visualisation

• led by Mike Botts, University of Alabama
• supported by NASA funding
• Plan to produce a book on Global Mapping
• book plan produced and chapter authors mostly
  identified
• but needs to be actively pushed
• Mike also working on 4d visualisation software
• Data Subgroup also needs focus for data
  visualisation discussion.
• So original Global Mapping Task definition is
  being expanded to include visualisation.

Global Datasets

• CEOS initiated both AVHRR 1km and GLOBE DEM
• Became independent activities but reported to
  Data Subgroup.
• Both projects essentially complete but have
  on-going activities.
• Need to maintain watching brief.
• Also need to provide forum for discussion of
  possible development of future global datasets.
• Therefore, proposal to have Global Datasets Task
  Team.
• Remit similar to ISPRS Global Environmental
  Datasets

Guidelines

• Format Guidelines Document now available.
• Also, two volumes of Auxiliary Data Sets (ADS)
  Guidelines.
• These now in maintenance phase.
• Available via HyperNews to allow comments to be
  inserted.
• Catalogue Guidelines Document in similar state.
• Also Browse Guidelines almost complete.
• Therefore, propose single Guidelines Task to
  oversee on-going maintenance of Guidelines
  documents.
• BNSC volunteer to lead this activity
• CEOS-Format HomePage has been created.
• CEOS-Format discussion group to be set-up.

TC211/OGC CEOS Interaction

• TC211 Standardization in the field of digital
  geographic information.
• OGC consortium of mainly commercial companies.
• CIP based response to OGC catalogue services RFP
• now working on merged response with NIMA
• Input to WG1 on GIS Framework and Reference Model
• metadata required for EO data (experience from
  CEOS Format and CIP)
• Input to Imagery and Gridded Data Components
• standardise concepts for the description and
  representation of imagery and gridded data in the
  context of ISO 15046
• lead by Dr. Kian Fadie of CCRS
• Issue input to TC211 done on national basis
• CEOS membership in Category A under consideration

• ISPRS - now accepted as CEOS associate member
• IGBP Data Integration project - WGISS Pilot

Conclusions and Recommendations

• Consolidation of some Task Teams recommended
• Format ADS (plus Browse and Catalogue) to
  Guidelines
• AVHRR 1km GLOBE to Global Datasets
• Scope of Global Mapping expanded to include
  visualisation.
• Creation of new Data Services Task Team (with
  AS).
• Baseband Concept document to be issued for
  approval by WGISS.
• Browse Guidelines document also to be issued for
  approval.
