enjoy learning by doing - A combination of on the job training and
classroom instruction - An apprenticeship takes from 2 5 years to
complete

- Canada has a dramatic demand for people with
training in the skilled trades and technologies - Many trades people today will be retiring in the
next ten years leading to a shortage of skilled
employees.

7OYAP - Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
- Allows students to earn their high school diploma
while participating in paid, on-the-job skilled
trades training - Grade 12 ( or a 5th year) Complete any
compulsory or elective credits, plus a full day
Co-op placement - Signed apprentice Paid employment four credits

16Articulation Agreements
- HWDSB students are guaranteed admission to the
Mohawk Technology program of their choice if
they successfully complete certain courses in the
pathway at secondary school. - Students may earn advanced standing or exemptions
with 70 or higher in specific courses.

- Universities offer undergraduate degrees (i.e.

Ph.D.) - Most undergraduate degree programs are four years

- 94.1 of the 2006 grads had found employment
within 6 months - 85. of those employed said their work was
directly or somewhat related to their degree two
years after graduation - 6 months after graduation the average salary was
